Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort did what he was supposed to do leading up his fight with Uriah Hall tomorrow night (Sun., Jan. 14, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 124.

Unfortunately for “Phenom,” Hall did not.

After “Prime Time” failed to step on the scales earlier today for official weigh ins, his co-main event scrap with Belfort was removed from UFC Fight Night 124. Hall had cut all the way down to 187 pounds before running into some medical issues and was subsequently forced to stop.

What makes matters worse for Belfort is the fact that this bout with Hall was supposed to be his UFC swan song. But instead of going out on his shield and retiring this weekend in St. Louis, Belfort essentially wasted two months training and cutting weight only to have Hall drop out just 24 hours before the fight.

Surprisingly, the 40-year-old Brazilian has taken the bad news in stride. In a recent Instagram post (shown below), “Phenom” detailed his journey to this weekend and his thoughts on Hall’s unexpected fallout.

“I dedicated 2 months for this training camp,” Belfort wrote. “Stayed away from my family and who knows me knows how hard this is for me. I spent all necessary to have the best structure to achieve my goal. My team had an intense dedication even during the holidays. I did all my fight week obligations, cut the weight and made the fight weight. Unfortunately my opponent had a problem during his weight cut, I wish him a soon recovery Uriah Hall. Now I just want to go back home and see my family. Thanks for all the support along this training camp.Love you all!!”

Most fighters would throw a temper tantrum if they paid for a training camp that resulted in no fight, but Belfort is the consummate professional and understands that not everything goes as planned. So even though his retirement will be put on hold following Hall’s failed weight cut, Belfort remains positive and should make his return to action fairly soon.
